Default Manual Trans in a gen 2

I am converting an automatic 81 Camaro to manual trans. T56 is out of my budget, but I am finding some T5's in range. Question, is the T5 from a late model V6 camaro the same trans as the T5 in the late model mustangs - just a differnt bell? I plan on 330hp 350 crate engine for street use. Any info would be appreciated.

T5 tranny is not very well built before 92. They were made for the poeple that drive properly. If you dig into them very much they wont last long. For the price and dependablity you may want to look at an aftermarket 5 speed. I am faced with the same decision because i am building a 78 camaro and not sure if i want to go 5 speed or built 700r4. a really good 700r4 to take 450 hp runs around 1700 bux. where as a good 5 speed with shifter maybe around 3K. However I have heard the T5's that came out in 92 and later camaros were tougher, i just am not sure how much tougher.. Hope this helps..

Thanks for the response. That leads me to one more question - is the V6 camaro trans from 93 up a T5? Will that bolt up with a V8 Bell? Those are pretty easy to find at reasonable prices. Although I am building a street car, I'm sure I'll take it down the track a few times.

Thanks again.
