Default Kickdown cable...is it needed?

I have not run a kickdown cable for years on my car and I am soon getting ym tranny (TH350) rebuilt by the local tranny guys, they say "Well...it should be there..." I know it should be there but does it NEED to be there for everything to work right inside? I could care less if it down shifts when I mash on the gas, if I want to down shift I do it myself!

well if you have a full ratchet shift then who cares, but i would attach it if you have a drive or overdrive option.

I am not sure if it matters or not, but on this tranny I have now it does not want to shift into drive, first and second are fine just no drive. Some people say thats because the kickdown cable is gone, now I have run different th350's and had no problems with drive. I think there is something wrong with this tranny I have now, not just the cable.

Sounds like you definately have a problem with that trans, The only thing the cable does is down shift when you stomp on the gas. It does not effect how is shifts threw the gears.

you WILL wreck your tranny quicker without it. nice way to burn up a torque converter from too much heat

It was engineered to have it. I would run it or swap in a 400. both my 3/4 ton 4WD's have 400's in them and my Z has the T10 4spd. I had a 350 in my old truck that had irratic shift pattern issues until I put the kick down cable on it.
