Default Kickdown cable

When I bought my 79 camaro there was an attachment by the carb that hung freely and was not connected to anything. I believe this has somehting to do with my kickdown cable on the tranny. Now I know very little to nothing about transmissions. I just recently switched carbs and I was wondering If I should hook up this attachment to the carb? It seems to run fine without it, but with it the car should downshift at full throttle correct? Any advice would be great thanks.

Default RE: Kickdown cable

It could be a cruise control cable or a TV (Throttle Valve) cable. The TV cable has to be properly adjusted, otherwise the transmission will not shift properly and suffer serious damage. The TV cable connects the throttle lever on the transmission to the throttle mechanism on the carburetor. The purpose is to adjust the transmission line pressure and control shift quality and shift timing in response to throttle angle. You may want to invest $20 on a repair manual and it will have detailed instructions on how to connect it and adjust it.
