I'm currently in the middle of my build and was wondering why my tranny fluid was low so I replaced my tranny pan gasket and filled it and saw fluid dumping out. My kick down/decent cable was broken off of the tranny. Now I see a cable inside and it was attached to the tip that was broken but now has fallen off. How does this cable connect to the cable? And another question. At rock auto they have 2 oneis 40 inches one is 46 inches... How would I know which one I need? I'm just worried that the piece inside the trans has broken. Anyone help me out?

 

OK I'm TOTALLY CONFUSED! Maybe rewrite that and make it a little more clear.

You didn't see any pieces laying in the pan when you took it off?
The cable goes into tranny and hooks to little arm on valve body.
If cable broke off you should have seen piece in pan. I don't think on 350 kick-down valve can come out of valve body cause little spring loaded arm will keep it in. You would have noticed something wrong if it came out when driving

 

OK, the cable attaches to the kickdown by a tab and a piece of bent wire. The cable has the tab if I remember correctly, the kickdown has the tab with hole in it. It's simply a case of pulling it up and turning the cable so the two attach, and then when it's striaght it's trapped.
If it broke or came apart it wont hurt anything. I've cut them off and epoxied the hole shut on cars I converted to manual shift. In fact you can pull the retaining bolt and then the hold down tab and slip a piece of flat rubber cut from a inner tube and slip it under. Then return the bolt and tab to seal the tube patch over the hole.

 

Ok really sorry sometimes I ramble... The cable bolts onto the trans and the plastic that holds the cable onto the trans broke. I can see a piece inside the trans. When I took the pan off I did not see anything on the bottom. How does the decent cable connect inside of the trans? On the decent cable I can see a loop on the bottom not connected to anything... Does this help

 

Bb I'd like to keep it auto is it possible to reattach the cable to the piece inside the trans?

 

Yes it's totally easy, but you'll have to pull the pan and you'll see where it is directly under the opening. Probably find any missing pieces too.
