Help Get Air Out Of Brakes!
#11
Ok so here's what I did with some results:
I bled the brakes a 2nd time and now when the engine running the brakes start to work with the pedal 1/4 down.
With the pedal 1/2 way down, the brakes are fully activated and holds the car still in all gears.
I took it for a test drive around the neighborhood and it rode well, was able to stop from 40mph in about 2 seconds.
So I guess my question is how is your brake pedal responsiveness?
How much travel do you guys have?
Just want to be safe with it,
Thanks

Can you lock em up well in a panic stop? Power brakes, with the engine running, will give you a softer pedal to where you can almost bury the pedal to the floor, but you should be locking the brakes up before that point.

The brakes on my '71 feel softer than those on my '69 Chevy, or my old gasser with Subaru master. Just the way they are. They don't go anywhere near the floor, and they lock up with ease when I want it.
You can improve pedal height by adjusting the rear shoes so they just touch the drums when you spin the tire by hand. Closer they are to the drum, the less pedal travel you'll have.

Yeah absolutely, I just have to muscle it down about 75% of the way. If that's just how this brake system works, then I guess everything's OK.
The ABS cars I have stop with just a "tap", that's what got me wondering.
Don't want to screw around with brake problems at highway speeds!
If you can think of any other things I might be missing let me know, otherwise thanks for the help.
