Default Header clearance

Sorry about the double post, but, I notice that there's more exposure here. Here's the deal, I was under the car the other day, planning out the exhaust, and I realized that the reverse rod runs right where the header collector tube will. This is on a 79 Z 350 4 spd. and I got the 2451-1HKR header set from Hooker for the 327 I'm trying to get built. What I need to know is, Have any of you 4 spd guys had issues installing headers w/a BW T10? I'm thinking that this rod can be removed without affecting reverse operation, is this possible? My only other option is to find a set off stock manifolds w/a 2.5 inch outlet. I'm on the fence about installing the headers anyway, so, need some input in order to make the call. Thanks in advance.

BTW: 74454BB, Thanks for the ROTM support.

A Borg Warner T10. The rod runs from the shift linkage, to a bell crank, up to the steering column. If it dose'nt block the header, it will certainly interfear with it.

YES!! My 70 Camaro had the same issue. The rod had to be removed. And it works ok......BUT then I have to turn the 'ring' on the steering column to turn the back up lights on and off.

Shift yours into reverse, with the rod on,and you should see a part of the steering column move, that is the back up light switch.

Hope this helps......

I thought it had someting to do with the back up lights. Seems abit elaborate for a backup light switch dose'nt it? Been working for 28 yrs though. Thanks.
