Default Getting out old floor pan for new one.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this. I am restoring a 1977 Camaro and the driver's side floor pan is rusted through. I am going to replace it. Cutting out and welding in is not the problem. I just need to know what is that tar goop that the factory puts on the seams of the floor pan and how do I get it off so I can put the new pan in? Also, do I need to put it back on after I put the new floor pan down AND where do I get it and what is it called??? Sorry for all these questions on my first posting but this one has baffled me. Thanks so much for your help!!! Tom

well, i used a screw driver and a wire brush. Also, the remainder burned off when I welded... you could use a chemical stripper possibly. I have heard of using roofing tar but I dont know what Im doing with it after Im done with the floors. You need to replace it though, otherwise it will just ruts again.

i think it's just called seam sealer. should have it at any auto parts,or a good restoration cat should have it. It would be a good thing to put some in after the new floor pan,it keeps the fumes out.
