Default Gen light cuts on periodically.

In my '74 my gen light cuts on here & there. It's happen a few times this month. On two seperate occasions I had to wiggle the battery just a little for it to cut on. What could it be? Alternater perhaps?

All help will be appreciated.

If it happens when you wiggle the battery i would assume just a loose connection. Check the power and ground wires, i would imagine it would be something simple. Put a volt meter on your battery when the car is running and see what it reads, that is usually how i tell if the alternator is charging, usually up over 14 volts when running.

The battery levels read fine. But still on the freeway it will stall at 50mph for about 45secs before reaching the speed limit as the light pops on. I'm assuming its the alternator so I'm getting around now to having it repaired. Thanks Sudstoy.

Anymore thoughts before I get a new alternator put in?

Also make sure the alternator belt is not slipping, especially since the light comes on as speed increases.

Are you saying the engine actually stalls, or the alt light just comes on?
