Default First Thread

This is my first thread here, so i'd like to post a few pics(unfortunately from facebook) it wont allow me to upload my photos for some reason. Anyhow, I just bought an 81 camaro. I was told it was a Z28, but upon further inspection, it is a clone..so that was kind of a bummer, but its still not going to stop me from working on this project, soon to be daily driver. I have replaced all the front end parts, because bringing her home I heard more pops and racket than I needed to. The trans, well it went out shortly after. So, just another fix. The interior is so mismatched its not funny. But anyhow im in class so I will continue posting pics throughout the day. I like reviews(both good and bad) so feel free

Looks like a nice start there... What makes you say that it is a clone (or Zebra as I call them) anyway?

Welcome to the Forum!

The guy I bought it from said it was a 1981 Z28. Well, after some research, its a base Camaro. Was Brown from factory with a 350. But the front clip was swapped over by a previous owner. So it's not a true z28. Simply a clone. The speedometer has been swapped over from the base. The dash is brown and cracked, the seats have been covered blue, and the interior panels are black. So I have ALOT of work to do. But I am 19 years old with some experience of completely redoing a Chevy. Heres my previous ride. I worked on it for about 2 years. Went to a car show and on the way back wrecked it and totalled it

Ive already begun working on it. I gave it a good tune up, new console lid, new brake pads & calubers, new fuses, some original N90 rims(hate the turbine wheels) and currently working on rebuilding the front end and transmission. Also got some new shocks and looking for some tires. What size tires would anyone recommend? Id rather a same size all the way around. I was considering 275/60-15's. I really dont know yet so any advice is appreciated!

275/60 is a good tire for the rear, but way to big for the front.I think maybe a 235/60 may look good front and rear but i dont think i would go any bigger than that for the front. As far as a real or clone, there are a few things you can check, you may still have a real Z,it wont show z28 on the title, but if your sure that the car came from the factory with a 350,if i'm not mistaken,i believe the only way to get a 350 in 81 was in a Z28,it was not an option for a base model.Check your trim tag under the hood at the back close to the windshield,if you have a norwood built car,it will say Z28 on the tag,if it was built in van nuys i believe it just shows an 8,but they are marked if they are real, also look at a few other options on the car, like if it has a rear sway bar,the front control arm bump stops will have an aluminum spacer, etc. there are some things that people overlook when doing a clone.
