^^ true, the 327 can be a nice motor especially the vette 327's but the 350 is a great base to start with and would probably be more streetable than the 327 of equal power. its really up to you and what your budget is, how long you wanna wait and what your main usage will be for the car. the 350 also makes more hp and torque at lower RPMs
try to find out the engine codes for the 327 and 350 too
but if its the vette 327 with 375hp then i wouldn't turn that down either

I had a '68 Impala with a stock 4 barrel 327/400 auto trans and 3.08 posi gears.
Big heavy car with highway gears but it could still smoke the tires.
One thing about the old 327's,a 4 barrel engine usually had 194 heads and higher compression pistons than most of your garden variety 350's from the mid to later '70's and '80's.
They were made back when you could still get real gas and before all the smog equipment came along.

I couldn't agree more with you Y2K! I'd take any late 327 over a 350 any day, 4 bolt main or not. The 350 is a great engine, but the 327 is better in my opinion, just for the reason you mentioned; the shorter stroke.
I had a '58 Chev truck that I swapped a stock 275 hp 327 into, and it was one of the fastest little Chev trucks around. Amazing power for the HP rating!

No. I wouldn't make such a broad statement as to say most people want either. I think for every person who wants lots of low end power and torque, there's someone else who wants their power to be mid or high range.
Lots of folks think that because a engine makes 450 hp at 6500 rpm's that it wont make anything at 1500 rpm. That's just not true. It will make less than a long stroke engine, but that just means when the long stroke engine is running out of power, the short stroke is coming on stronger.
Don't get me wrong; I love my big block and wont change, but I have a real soft spot for the old 283, 302, and 327 Chev engines. All are short strokes that make power at higher rpm's, but they also get to those rpm's much faster than long stroke engines.

well i was just saying that because most cars are used on the street and low end power is helpful since they dont usually push really high rpms...yeah i know. you can get engines that make good power across a good sized rpm band as well..even engines with higher end power can still make good power throughout the power band
im not against shorter stroke engines like 327's or 302's but i just love more low-mid range power

Not my car,just a pic I snagged off google but mine was just as straight and a one owner,just dark green with a black vinyl top otherwise the same car.
I got it in 1976 with 99K on the clock,mostly highway miles and the car looked and ran like new.
Sadly I haven't a single picture of that car.
