The inner shaft moves with a rod from the transmission linkage to the column. Look under the hood and have someone move your trans shifter back and forth. The rod should move at the firewall when the shifter is moved.
You can also climb under the car and follow the rod from the trans to the firewall and see if it fell off either end.

thanks for the info.

after looking at your link then checking out my car i became very depressed. lol. apparently i am missing all of the linkage between the trans and the column.

so does anyone have any links where i can buy all of it for cheap ?

You could also convert to a cable operator if you have some fab skills.
