its a good time to check for any surface rust scrape it all off and paint with rust paint.when i did my carpet i positioned front to back then laid it down starting in middle of car,dont know if i got lucky but mine fit perfectly.be careful once you cut something your stuck with it goodluck

You can check fit either way, but the rear always goes in first when installed.
