Yeah, take your time, measure and fit twice and cut once (where you have to). Mark your seat and seat belt mounting holes as you lay the carpet down by using golf tees (or something similar) stuck through the carpet and into the holes. That will flag the holes for you, and keep the carpet in place as you go. Once the carpet is all down, you can open the holes a little more with a utility knife so the bolts will clear.

I thread the bolts back into the hoile and use a knife, then just push the carpet over.

Another tip is to lay it out in the sun for a few hours before you install it,that will make it a bit more flexible so it will lay flatter while you install it.

I also put the bolts back in all the holes before laying the carpet in. Be sure to get all the edges where you want them before ever cutting the first hole! You only get one chance at that, and don't want to have to fix new carpets.
I started by getting mine all the way forward under the dash and fitting it side to side. Then cut and pushed it over the bolts. Then I installed the back and slid it under the front just enough to overlap. Checked all the fitment side to side, and put a seat bottom in to be sure it covered too. Then finally instaalled the seats, and after that the belts and side rocker covers.
Now is a good time to lay down any dynamat or such too, so it will be quieter.

I usually measure everything out, than use a heat gun and a roller to lay the carpet in, then trim off the excess, for the seat and seatbelt holes I go under the car and use an old soldering iron to open them up and seal the edges at the same time

I don't think they were glued originally, but they did stick to the metal after years of being in position. I know I had to pull mine up and wire brush the jute backing off the floor when I replaced it, but I didn't glue anything.
