Its a drag car and I wanted to remove it to free up a few hp. Ive seen guys just remove the pump but Im not sure that is the best way to go. We are also considering going without an alternator but then we would need to run a generator and charger every few runs. With the electeric water pump we have we would need to run a low mount alternator if we ran one.

I have a 79 that someone converted to a manual steering package and I want to go back with power steering. Would you be interested in trading out the parts?

Griff, Use a big pulley on the alternator and mount a on/off switch in the system to turn the alternator off when making a run. That will remove 99 % of the parasitic drag and You can still have a charging systen when needed.

Yea I have been inforned not running an alternator is a bad idea, I just need to run the wire through a switch and turn off and on that sounds easy enough. My problem now is that the alternator belt will not clear the water pump so I need to make a low mount bracket or mount the alt to the frame.
