Transmission leak at pan

Transmission leak at pan
My 67 camaro (350/TH350) had a bad leak over the winter. I found and replaced a rear seal. During this I found that one side of the transmission crossmember bolt was missing the nuts, the other side was good.
I am assuming that the transmission pan was leaking the whole time as well. I replaced filter gasket and bolted back up. I overtightened and stripped a bolt. I have already drilled and replaced the bolt.
So there is still a leak in the pan and I am wondering two things....
1. Could I have used bolts that were not correct, which is why it tore off so easy, and I need to replace them tighter?
2. Could it have warped from the crossmember loose on one side?
Thanks

1. Not if the bolts are tight against the pan.
2. You're suggesting the transmission case warped? No.
Did you check to make sure you don't have a leak at the speedo gear housing? That's a VERY common leak prone spot, especially the more the car sits idle. You could have a leak there, and it would run down and along the pan ledge, making it appear the pan is leaking.

Been there, had that. The aluminum speedo gear housings are notorious for causing leaks. Mine used to burp out a lot of fluid when sitting over the winter, even after replacing the o-rings like you did. What does take care of the problem like a charm is a replacement steel housing like this: Speedo Gear Housing. Mine hasn't leaked since.
