Default car rolling out of park

I have a 69 camaro with a rebuilt 400 transmission and 350cu motor. The linkage is hooked up right and the auto shifter works in all gears. The car when placed in park will create a "racketing sound" and roll down the driveway. Almost like a gear in the trans is stripped. Has anyone heard of this- the linkage is right on but the car moves when in park. Do I need to drop the Trans and have it torn apart or can somebody work on it without dropping the trans by taking off the filter???? thanks-

the tranny fluid is full and no leaks, I think a gear is stripped someplace in the trans and wondering if it is an easy fix without dropping the trans????

I am pretty sure the tranny needs to be dropped for that.

is it going into park? I have a hurst ant tried to use the stock cable, when I put the car into park it would stop short just enough to keep it a hair out of park. .........never mind you said the linkage is right.

Sounds like the parking pawl inside the trans is worked loose or broke and not engaging into the gear that holds it.

If memory serves some parts can be fixed without pulling the trans. You'll need to drop the pan and look at the assembly going from the outside lingage to the rod that attaches to the pawl that sits in the rear band /gear assembly.

Remember, park is broke. Block the wheels proper before playing around under there
