Default 69 manual trans speedo cable

I have a 69 with a manual trans and the speedo cable stopped working so I ordered a new one from an aftermarket supplier only to find out that the end that goes to the speedo does not fit, it seems that the square end will not fit into the case of the speedometer. It is the original speedometer so this really is strange. Can anyone tell me if their are different sizes of cables?

Thanks

The size would be different if you got a poorly made cable. All the 69 speedometers hooked up the same. Side by side, how does the new cable compare to the old one?

Other than that one ^ being for a full size Chevy (Impala, Bel Air, etc), and 1968-older, that's just what he's looking for!

my point was to show that for 10 years they all fit . not that it was the right cable
