WoW, that work is coming along great. I had to make sure my car was still in the garage. Alot of the work your doing was done on my 68. Now I will be starting on my wifes 71 Nova, it will be purple......

wow, doing good, how are you killing the surface rust, at least it looks like you put something on it.

hey guys, it's been a while. haven't been doing much in the way of the '68. I got completely sidetracked because of an unfortunate incident. this actually happened right when i started working on the '68.

the end of last September (2013) coming home from a cruise, a deer jumped out in front of my wife's '70 Z28. took out almost the whole front end. SUCKS! there's good news and bad news (isn't there always - LOL).

the good news is that the insurance is paying for the repairs from the deer. the bad news is very complicated. the car has lacquer paint from 1980, and the paint is showing it's age, the insurance co. is paying to paint 1/2 the car. why not get the whole car painted? right? the person i trust explicitly to work on the car works at this shop. they agreed to take the car.

this is the complicated part. can't paint over the lacquer paint. car's gotta get stripped. shop want's way too much to do the other 1/2 of the car. i bring it back home to do the rest of the work (the shop is ok with this). i start stripping the paint and i'm finding bondo everywhere.

when we bought the Z, we were told that the car is perfectly clean with a show quality paint. which was far from the truth. the paint was very nice when we bought it but who ever did the body was a bondo artist. i'm changing the trunk lid, tail light panel and possible the drivers door (if i can find one.) the whole car is getting redone. SUCKS! so i'm in the middle of 2 restos an the Z takes priority cause the insurance co. is involved.

here's the kicker!

i had the car prepped and ready to go to the shop 2 weeks after the accident (middle of oct.). they didn't pickup the car till middle of January. it sat till the middle of April then i get a call............we took apart the car.

WHAT! they never gave me an out of pocket price for the rest of the car. within that 6 month period, they (the office people) didn't even draw up an estimate. and then they wanted 7K for my part, i brought the car home and did it myself. i could have been doing this over that 6 months (remember though, most of the 6 months i was working on the '68 but could've been working on the '70)

now it's turned into a total resto. here it is today

guess i'll be snooping around the 2nd gen section for a while.

Greg
