Wife's 53

Wife's 53
Well my wife and I went to the Oregon High Desert Swap Meet on Saturday. This is a local event that we always try to attend. We were going up and down the rows of parts and cars just looking at every thing, bought a coupe of small items. But when we first came in the gate we saw an old chevy sedan that looked in pretty good shape and it was on a trailer so we were pretty sure it didn't run. We looked at some other cars and the conversation always ended with something about this old chevy. So when we got done and ready to leave we went back by the old car. The person selling it was there this time. He didn't have a lot of info, wasn't even real sure of year. Turned out he had bought it and several other cars at an estates sale. My wife had me go over pretty good and she was even looking for rust spots and what ever else she could find (funny what she learns watching power block tv). The guy really didn't have a price and kept telling us make an offer. Told him we really didn't want to insult him. But My wife really likes the car. Well we finally made an offer that I thought was fair. $1500. He accepted the offer and then delivered the car for us to the farm. So here is my wifes new ride, the next project when the camaro is done. The last thing I thought we would buy!

Will have more pics later. This will be a slow project as I want to finish the camaro first. I actually think I may be able to get it running with the 6cyl.
We were going to drop in a 350 with a auto trans, But we are finding that this car is all original except for the paint. Body is really straight. Interior is all there just needs lots of help Everything under the hood even looks correct. We were surprised how much was in the trunk (chrome, door panels, window cranks, ect.). So now she is thinking put it all back to original except for the paint. Now, lets see how hard its gonna be to get a title.
More pics to come

Spent most of the day waiting for a plumber so I spent some time on the "53".Since this thing all seems to be original I figured it was still 6 volt. And it was. Checked the oil, an it was ok. Hit the key and it turned over. So I went and got my starting fluid and put a shot in. It fired! went and got a little gas, put a little in the carb, it fired and ran for a few seconds. I thought the gas tank was empty, so I pulled the plug on the bottom of the tank, and it had old gas in it (I'll keep the old gas to brush burning this fall). Added 5 gal of gas that I had for the camaro, and low and behold in a few minutes I had the car running. Actually runs pretty good, Trans and clutch both seem okay. All good news for now.

Holy cow Bill! That was a great deal! Hope there's no problems getting a title for it! Have you looked around the car to see if there's any old registration inside that might help with finding the previous owner?

We haven't done anything to this car as of yet, do to not being able to get the title. Didn't want to spend any money on something I might have to sell off for parts. As of this week thoug I have jumped through almost all the hoops the state has set up and just have to get everything together and send it it . Should have (hopefully) title by end of summer. This was our first non drivable old car purchase, and boy did we learn alot!
