I posted this question on the 67-69 General forum section and did not get a response. Was still looking for a solution to repairing this section of floor panel at the shifter. I can simply make sheet metal to match and weld, but there is a secondary square frame that the shift boot frame screws on. Wanted to see if anyone has had to repair this same floor area and how they did it. Its a long shot, but wanted to do my best to repair original.
I did the very same thing on my first 69, decades ago...heated up the arm and bent a dog-leg to center with the tunnel. I formed a piece of metal and riveted in place, since it's not structural. Those were my pre-welding days, today I'd probably keep it fancy and weld it in place.
Thank you... I'll make the tunnel repair and see if I can form some metal that matches that square trim. I just removed the subframe, engine and transmission so I now have access to the underside of the tunnel. I think I'll remove that square trim, fix the tunnel and then re-weld the repaired square trim. This way it would still look like that trim is still a separate trim piece welded to the underside. - This would work, Yes?
Thanks again Zspoiler... Found the reinforcement piece on line. Have a hard time looking for items when you don't know the name. For those who are looking for the same thing, link below.
