I have never given my car a name. It would seem fitting since 1St. Gen calls his 'Ricky' and many others have given there cars a name. I was given one day a week to work on the car. I started the first week of January 2021 and as of now, it's starting to be tiresome among the loved ones. Bringing home parts to clean, working all day once a week, spending time researching, keeping track of photos and videos, notes and all kinds of deliveries, so it has no become my obsession and now get the eye roll from the wife and kids when I want to talk about the Camaro. 'The Albatross' has been used in our household to mock my time away from my family to work on this monumental project. It has not yet stuck, but it currently fits the current description needed.
I'm now freaking out that I'm missing something. I have made sure things like the glove box door, gas cap, heater core cover at fire wall go with the car to be painted. But what am I missing. I could use some help on a list of items that would need to be installed and go with the car for final panel assembly. I don't want to remove something to access a bolt or install a random clip I'm missing. I know there are a couple items like the fuel and break lines need to be installed (already in), but what am I missing. What about the heater blower fan. Can that be installed after (fender will not be in the way..? ). Any pointer would be greatly appreciated.
While I appreciate the reference to "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner", I would have to vote "NO". Pretty depressing poem... On a slightly more amusing instance of someone coming up with a name for theirs, a very good friend of mine just sent me a song by a strangely-named group (Wussy) , called "God's Camaro". The name might seem sacrilegious to many, but I guess it just fits my admittedly strange sense of humor, to think that if He or She had a car, it would be a Camaro. First lines of the song: "I have God's Camaro parked out in the drive. And when I get behind the wheel, I'm never more alive."
I suspect that once your trusty steed is back on the street, all familial wounds will be healed! But I'm NOT suggesting that "God's Camaro" be your car's name! Like in the song "A Boy Named Sue", I might suggest "Bill" or "George" instead. As I have mentioned, I had an actual reason to call mine "Ricky Camaro", having watched the hot rodder's back in my high school daze racing their engines back and forth in front of the school. And those of us blessed with a 36HP car, appropriately named "Gutless Wonder" called them "Ricky Racer" and said to ourselves, "someday, I'm gonna own a cool car like that". But you should find a name that fits in your head, and go with that. Maybe "Gordon" in honor of Jeff Gordon???
Boy, as for paint pieces, hard call. Maybe a refresh on your grill? Or the straps that hold the fuel tank on? I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law, so I have confidence that you'll miss something... Hah! Almost as depressing a thought as the poem above.
Just a quick update. Nothing has really changed over the past two months. Had to take all the fenders and panels back off to work on more items. I have to remember that my car will be returning with hood, fenders, doors, trunk and all paneling on and painted. There are items that needed to be installed that can not be accessed when fenders are on. Items like the heater, parking brake cable and a couple other items. Anyway... the Camaro is officially off to paint, hope to be done by end of July. No pics, since it still looks like my previous images. I do finally have a Rumble account and posting videos. My user name is the same, Turbo86. I've titled them '1968 Camaro Restoration' and then designated with #'s. I've currently posted a video of the Camaro just before it went to paint, so you can check that out. I'm also slowly adding all my other videos ever since I started working on the car. So as of now, I've posted my rust inspections. Videos are little monotonous, but it just goes over the car before I start anything. I'll then add more of dismantling and other stuff. Please enjoy.
OK.... I think I got this figured out. Got a bunch a videos and created a channel. Check it out and subscribe if you wish, but to have to join Rumble to comment and subscribe. I'll keep adding videos over the next couple days and weeks. https://rumble.com/c/c-1690755 And of course I'll keep posting pics and updates here.
As my wife calls it 'The Albatross' is moving along. I finally got it of to the painter back in the first week of Jun. The blocking and sanding is mostly complete. Still needs two coats of primer and more sanding between coats, but on it's way. Hope to have back home in about two-three weeks. At that time I can work on sound proofing and electrical. The fenders, hood and other panels now line up. Also as a side note, my engine will be completed and I can pick up in about a week. I also finally got all my videos up to date on line, so if any of you are interested, click on the link in my signature. The painter was also able to match the original Fathom Blue. The trunk latch catch that has original paint so they able to match the color spot on.
I do finally have a Rumble account and posting videos. l
Sorry to see you chose Rumble. Why not You Tube? My computer is allergic to Rumble, for not-so-subtle reasons, and I'll miss your videos unless they make it to You Tube.
Anyway, on a happier note, I hope you've got your chariot back! Can't wait to see it all painted and beautiful!!! Have you come up with a name yet?
Chose Rumble since there is to much info out there on You Tube and was not looking for any recognition or judgment. Just wanted a simple site that I could down load videos to use as an external storage site, share with friends and I could easily access on line via my phone, tablet or any thing that has internet access.
I will defiantly share the new photos. Hope to have home by mid next week. I do have a couple names. Strange how us humans name and gender our cars. Its always just instinct, so a female name is fitting for me. "Blue Beauty" or just "Beauty", doesn't quite flow off the tongue. Looking for names that my father would use. He raised and bread beagles for 40 years, so I may use one of his dogs names. "Moraine" is one one them, but again, doesn't quite flow. I have an old 86 Toyota Truck and I've named it "Bambi", very fitting. Anyway, still working on it.
Well, if you were to google "Rumble and conservative", and if you were to consider the extent to which I reveal my beliefs through my writing, you might understand why my computer is allergic to Rumble.
Many years ago, my maternal grandfather was born, grew up and died in the Ukraine. The "died" component was related to his ethnicity and the inconvenient invasion of Russia by **** sub-humans during WW2, and their practice of standing innocent unarmed civilians of the wrong ethnic grouping alongside roads, to be used for machine-gun practice. No time to build ovens... I'm not real fond of fascism and cults. Power-mad monsters just make me angry. But I really do love Camaros!
Anyway, I hope you come up with a great name, one that makes you smile. Personally, I love the blues, so maybe, just "Blue"? Or you could start a thread: "Name my Camaro" for ideas...
Well, looks like all my hard earned cash and patients has paid off. Here is a quick look at my new Fathom Blue Beauty. Just finished yesterday and hope to have back home this weekend. I'll get more pics, but this should be a good sneak peak.
He crew... working slow, but will pick up pace again by November with cleaning, sound matting , wiring and firewall stuff. Here are some pics in the sun to get a better feel of the color.
