Exclamation Voltage Regulator Noise

So my voltage regulator is making some load noises, it kinda sounds like there is something spinning inside. Is this normal.

Along with that, in order to get power to the car, i have to run a direct power wire from my battery to my alternator along with the wire to the starter. is this normal or does this sound like a separate issue?

Could one problem be causing another or are they both fine, looking for help.

Thanks.

An original style voltage regulator is mechanical that has a relay with contact points inside. It could have some burned contacts, as you really shouldn't be hearing it make noises.
Your power issue, or lack of, may be due to having a cooked fusible link. Check them to see if they feel crunchy or flimsy when you squeeze and bend them. There should be one at the voltage regulator, the horn relay (near the regulator), and one that comes from the junction block on the passenger side of the radiator, which eventually makes it's way to the alternator. Look at all the wires, a fusible link looks like a rubber "lump" inline with the wire, that's about 3/4" long.

Thanks. The horn relay contacts are so corroded that i cant even get the screws out so i think im just gonna get a new regulator and horn relay and that fusable link you were talkin about.
