69 Voltage regulator wiring
New to boards and did a search but came up with nothing. I just got this Camaro running and am tring to fix all the bugs left in it by previous owner. It was not charging and I had to replace alt and regulator. Gen light would stay on with key off some times so I figured a bad diode. Voltage regulator was burnt and after market gauge was reading low. So after replacing both parts it was then running and charging. Only problem is now it wont shut off. I un plugged HEI at "batt" and it quits. Peeled back harness to distributer and find a mess of wires and appears that it is all hooked together and going to the voltage regulator. So i disconnect all the wires going to the distributer except the black one and it starts and runsand shuts off. Now I have no power to the #4 terminal of the VR and it wont charge. It look like there is supposed to be a brown wire that feed this terminal but I have a red one. Does any one have a good diagram og thei system?
I have a good 1969 chassis service manual that shows different diagrams as well as diagnostic info for the charging system (8 pages). If you have access to a fax machine, I can send you copies.
