Default Pace Car Block Stampings

Hi Folks - been a while since I have posted.

I am interested in buying a bucket list car - a '69 Pace car not too far from where I live. I spoke with the owner, and inquired about numbers-matching. It is an L-48, auto car, built at Norwood, so is X-11.

He mentioned that he believes it to be a numbers car, but cannot prove the block. He claims that the pad at the front of the block only shows the partial code for the motor (HB), and only a partial VIN number, and the rest is located on a pad near the oil filter. I did not ask about the casting number. I will ask him to send me a photo of the pad ahead of the right cylinder head so that I can see what he is referring to.

I know Big Blocks fairly well, but not SB's. To me this sounds kinda fishy, as my '69 Stingray shows all of the data on this pad, and the casting number is at the rear of the block on the driver's side, in plain sight.

In doing a search, I have found that HB is correct for 350-300 horse automatic, but nothing that shows the complete pad indicating what the specific numbers should be for motor type, and VIN.

Can anybody tell me what I should specifically see on the pad (how much detail and what should the numbers mean) and what casting number this block should be? Is the correct casting number 3932388, or 3956618?

Many thanks in advance,

Rob

Either casting number would be right. The partial VIN (last 6 digits of the full VIN) would be on the front pad, but some had it on the vertical boss by the oil filter instead of the front pad. The full VIN was not stamped on the block.
