Default Casting number help

Is there anyway to tell axactly what an engine block came in? I have looked up the engine casting number on this block and as far as i can tel it could be a 327, 350, came in a truck, car or vette? Any way to narrow it down?

Here is the castingnumber:
3956618

You need the stamps (not castings) off the block from behind the alternator. 2 sets, one gives the plant, production date and horsepower, the other gives the application and vin number suffix

I looked that number up as well and it didnt really tell me anything either. a few applications it could be but nothing specific. Also there was no VIN stamping, just the suffix.

One more question, the heads, i got the number from them. It is 3947041, i looked that number up at this wensite:
http://www.donsautopages.co.nz/chevheadnumbers.htm, but it shows that number twice, i cant figure out what it means. Any help there too would be appriciated.

these links should help...
http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml
http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...es.asp?group=4

3956618 = 1969 block

That would be T0113HB....

T = T for Tonawanda (NY) Engine Plant;
01 = January;
13 = 13th day;
HB =

HB- 1967 327 275 4 A.I.R.

HB-1968 327 275 4 H.D.clutch

HB- 1965 327 300 4 std trans., hi perf.

HB- 1966 327 275 4 A.I.R.

HB- 1969 350 300 4 turbo hydro trans

It appears that you have a 1969 350/300hp 4bbl with an automatic trans.

see how easy it is...

You should try to check the vin stamp now. If you locate the othere stamp it will read something like 19N123456. That indicates 1- chevrolet, 9- 1969, N- assembly plant Norwood, then the 6 digits are the vin of the original vehicle. If that matches the last 6 of your vin, you have the original motor. And, it appears from the info you provided, you would have an SS. Keep us posted.

My belief is that a 350 300 hp motor was only available as an SS car. Could be wrong though. What is the vin suffix?

You are correct, Camaro '69 350 300hp was only available in SS, though there were other engines available in the SS, the 350/300 was the base SS engine.

Is the block bare? I mean can you measure the bore and stroke? That would help ID the block.
