ok here's the thing. I am building a 350 bored .030 over motor. Block is a 1975 block. Not numbers matching. Right now I am in Ohio talking to my friend who got me into this whole project a year ago and he has in his posession right now a 350 bored .030 block that was made in sept of 68. The VIN tag on my car saysthe carwas made in April of 69. He wants 450$ for the block plus I would have to ship it to fl which would be another 100$ I would imagine. Would this block make it a numbers matching car or is it too far apart. I am trying to decide if I should buy it or not.

 

Numbers matching means that the last six numbers of the VIN on the dash of a car are also stamped on the deck pad in front of the passenger side head. On most Camaros that number is something like this; 19N631133. And that will be preceded with something like VO113MO or DZ, MS, MT, HP, HT or?

The vin can also be found by the oil filter location. I have a numbers matching drive train simply because I have the original protecto plate that was issued for my car, and all the #'s that are stamped on the plate are found on my block, tranny, and the 12 bolt rearend. This helps provided proof of a #'s matching car. Build sheet is also so a big help. Have'nt found mine. Any vehical makedocuments will help prove a #'s matching car.

 

I have also look at other Camaro's before I bought mine that were #'s "correct", meaning the the engine trannywere manufactured around the date just before the car was biult at the factory. So the block that you are considering could be used. If yours is an SS350, the block must have 4 bolt main caps.

 

Well....ok...I got all that..........but I have decided to pass on the block. Being a numbers matching car is not that important and I am not going to sell this car anytime soon. Besides it takes more than just the block to make it a numbers matching car.

 

Besides, if your original block is gone, it doesn't matter anymore. Nothing you do (legally) will ever make it numbers matching again.
