Check with any insurance companies that your Dad may have used, including AAA, and yeah, the DMV. You will probably need to sweet-talk the help there, and maybe call back a time or three to other workers if the first one does not help. You may also locate a Previous Owner who had the car before your Dad, if you know where the car was living back then. Good Luck!
P.S. Do any old pix show the car's license plate?
You think they still have pre-computer data? Most insurance companies purge data every 7-10 years. Even Air plane manufacture are only required to keep info 20 year.
