Hi, I've posted on a different thread regarding my very slow cranking 67, and while working with that, found that my carb needs rebuilt replaced. So, I was thinking, if I can find a decent used replacement, (ebay or craigslist), let's go that way. So, the motor is a 350, with stock intake and Quadra-Jet. I'm looking towards an Edelbrock 2701 or 2101, with perhaps an Edelbrock carb, but would think about a Holley as well.

Thoughts, ladies and gentlemen?

You're likely to be happier with something more foolproof, which is the Edelbrock carb with the 2701 intake (square bore).
Quadrajets work good when they're working good, but I don't care for them as much. If you go that route, you're going to want the 2101 intake (spread bore).
My preference on an Edelbrock intake would actually be the Performer Air Gap, but you want to measure for hood clearance to make sure you'll have some.
I like Holley carbs, because there's more adjust-ability. But they sometimes take more tinkering than the Edelbrock may, and is probably beyond your practical needs.
A 650 cfm carb will be right at home on your 350.

 

If your car has it's original engine/carb, I would just rebuild the QuadraJet.

I don't have an original (numbers matching) car and I went with a Performer 2101 intake with a newly rebuilt QuadraJet. I replaced a Holley that I could never get to run properly. I've always had good luck with Q-Jets and they get good mpg, IMO.

 

Not the original engine, but from the same time period. I want a good reliable combination, and since I'm a pack rat, I'll keep the stuff that I take off the car.

You'll find many different opinions on what is the best carb and intake but in the end, it's really up to what your budget is like.

Personally, I hate Q-jets but others really like them. I have had nothing but good luck with Holleys.

I had a 350 in a 72 Chevelle, that had a Edelbrock Performer intake and a Holley 600. The only thing I didn't care for was the spread bore to square bore adapter plate that you had to use, but other then that, it ran great.

I also had a 355 in my 68 Camaro that had a mild cam and a Holley 300-36 intake and a Holley 600 but later switch out for a 750. That was a good combo as well, but the 750 used a little too much gas, but it ran.

 

Edelbrock works for me

 

Not to take away from the original question by the OP, but isn't the Edelbrock carb a spreadbore design or basically a Q-jet design?

Not wanting to get into a debate about them, just asking, I never worked on one of them.

 

The Edelbrock is a Carter afb design, it's a square bore carb.
