How to replace rear monoleaf bushings?
Yep, nothin like the smell of burning rubber...been there, done that on bushings before. Sure you can have it done, but that takes all the fun out of it. Besides, you could cook it out yourself in the time it takes you to drive it to and fro...(or is that hither and thither?)
OK, I was able to replace the rear bushings OK (although Chevy sure makes it tough to get the upper bolt out without removing the gas-tank!)... However, when I lowered the front bushing assemblies and removed the mounting bracket, it did appear that they were a press-fitted affair into the spring eye. Nothing I could do to remove it for now (due to lack of time), so I put it all back together again. At least they didn't appear to be in as bad a shape as I thought they would be after 44 years. But, now that the rear set and shackles have been replaced, you can feel a little bit of difference, since their conversion to polyurethane.
Oh well, the fronts will get another look-see at another time.

Hey, have you thought about replacing Radiator and body mounts? It's cheap, quick and easy (as long as the nut retainers arn't rusted out and spin..) and wow, can you feel the difference!

LMAO. Oh man, if that ain't the truth. I can't tell you how many "I'll get back to it again later" things I have that I haven't gotten back to yet!
So, StoveBolts, how were you able to replace those front radiator-mount-to-frame bushings anyway? I have the parts, but I couldn't figure-out a good way to raise the radiator-mount off of the front frame portion. I had no problem unscrewing the bolts and replacing the top bushing, but was unable to raise the car up to remove/replace the lower bushing (the one that actually bears all the weight up there). How did you do it?
Hi Bob,
Well, I'm not sure I can answer that question.... I wasn't thinking about that when I replaced mine...
I would think that it could still be done. Maybe somebody else could chime in that didn't have their front clip tore down when they replaced theirs.
sorry
