HELP Identifying V8 engine

The compression height was taller on the pistons when a 6.135 rod is used. Where the water pump attaches to the block, the top of the upper mounting ear of the water pump will be even with the deck on a 9.80 deck block; on a 10.20 deck the top of the water pump mounting ear is .400" below the deck of the block.
1970-1972 would be best before they went low compression and smogged out. Those of course would be harder to find. I'm pretty sure pickup trucks and Suburbans had the short deck 454 up through about 1990. After that they still had 454's but there were some changes like no place for a manual few pump to bolt on. If you go looking for a 454 probably 9 out of 10 you find will be mid to late '70's pickup/Suburban or motorhome engines.

Yes but weren't those just in heavy trucks like dump trucks and 2 1/2 ton box trucks etc.? Aren't pickups and Suburbans the short deck like cars?

I’m looking to swap out the 327 in my 1968 Camaro. I was hoping it would as simple as just swapping both engines and changing out the front heavier duty suspension spring to compensate for the heavier engine.

You will need to swap out the heater core, small block heaters end up with the hose connections to the core right behind the cylinder head with no room to hook it up to the hoses on a big block swap.
