If I had a radiator shop around here that didn't charge an Arm and a Leg and all my Fingers I would.

Hi 17Again,

After conducting some additional research, I have come to the conclusion that there may have been a mid-year change where some of the 1968 models may have been assembled using the 2" core.

See attached GM parts book entry from October, 1970 that references this change.

Part # 3011432 superseded to the part number referenced in the GM part book.

I feel that this confirms my suspicion that your car is equipped with the 3011432 heater core.

That is nice information you located, my car was built the 4th week of March. I wondering if they changed the entire heater box with the change in the core size.

Hi 17Again,

I looked at the parts book published in November 1968, and the one published early the next year, in February of 1969. (see screenshot)

It appears that there were 4 possibilities for the case: (In my opinion, the part # for your case is listed below in bold text)

It does not indicate that the case changed. Looks like the case remained the same whether you had the 2" or the 2-1/2" core.

3015134 - Case - 1968-69 Camaro (except 396 engine) without AC
*use CI Part # 3013319 for 1968 Early Builds with 2-1/2" core
*use CI Part # 3011432 for 1968 Late Builds with 2" core (supersession #3016842)
*use CI Part # 3011432 for 1969 models

3015141 - Case - 1968-69 Camaro (with 396 engine) without AC
*use CI Part # 3011477 for 1968 models
*use CI Part # 3018864 for 1969 models

3015606 - Case - 1968 Camaro with AC
*use CI Part # 3009917 for 1968 models

3018763 - Case - 1969 Camaro with AC
*use CI Part # 3018489 for 1969 models

This is good info to hold onto. I know others have had this problem in the past. Hope it is seen by those that need a 68 core to realize the change and which one to order.

I did receive my shipping label to return my core today. My last 68 I had was sold in 1978, I had a 69 Z28 X33 in the early 80's but sold it in 1984. Ive only had the 68 I have since July. Thank you and Classic Industries for the help I needed.

Glad I looked here FINALLY!! Been going crazy trying to figure this out the last couple of months. This all makes sense now. I was going by the catalogue, but nothing was matching up. Going to return everything and order the later heater core and it'll be done!!
Thanks for the info!!
