Heater core
So I purchased a new Heater core for my 68 Camaro with a small block and it is 2.5 inches thick instead of 2 inches thick. I'm having some trouble finding what I took out of my heater box. The 2.5 one fills the entire cavity to the top and the brackets to hold it in cannot be used. Anyone have the same problem?

- Direct fit factory replacement
- Not intended to work with original 396 V8 option cars

This is the core I removed, I have looked and cannot find another like it. It seems all original but who knows after 51 years. I have found others on the internet that have had the same problems. I'm seriously thinking of converting it to a big block core that comes out farther away from the engine.

I believe anything is possible right now. But the 2 inch fit very well. Not sure if the entire heater box is different from the 68 to 69. My heater box had original numbers on it which were "86" not sure if it was a 68 why it would be backwards. There is no way a 2.5 inch core would work with mine. Classic has agreed to send me a shipping label and fully refund it. I'm really thinking about getting a Big Block core to have more room with engine valve cover. Maybe this was meant not to work so I would do this.

Ray Thank You for your info. I believe I have seen others with the same problem as mine. Any idea why the 69 core would be in the 68 heater box? Could they have originally come with them? Mine appeared to have been in there for a long time.
