need advice on heater core leaking

Default need advice on heater core leaking

67 RS heater core leaking into floorboard, can i direct connect hose from water pump to block without harming engine and run it until i get it changed out and how hard is it to change and wheres the best source for the core unit

Yes, you can by-pass the heater core and just connect the hose from the water pump to the intake. It will just keep recirculating. NO PROBLEMO... You can buy a new replacement heater core from Advance or O'Rielly's quite reasonable and they are warranteed...good luck, they are not the easiest things to change.

It's a split case kind of procedure.

Half the unit is mounted to the firewall on the engine side and once those nuts are loosened, then the heater core drops down to the floor on the passenger's side. There will be a few cables connected for the vent controls and a wire or two for switches so watch for those.

The heater core is easily removed by pulling the metal clips on both sides and the core comes straight out.

Classic industries, and others carry those items. Heck, your local parts store can get you one too.

it is a lot easier job if you have two people doing it. one on the inside of the car topush the heater core forwardand one under the hood to start the nuts. this is also a good time to relpace the firewall pad under the dash because the heater box is the biggest obstacle to contend with
