Engine??
I have a guy here in town that is selling an engine/transmission. The engine is a 427 with 425hp. the tranny is a turbo 400. Both have been built by a professional. I went to his shop and talked to the builder. 10:1 comp. oval port heads, forged pistons, steel crank. Comes with starter, power steering pump, new alt, mallory ingnition, holley carb, all pulleys, fan. He wants $3500 for all of it. Just wondering if that a good deal. Please let me know.
Thanks guys!

Not bad if it is a 427. I would check the stamp on the front of the engine in front of the passengers side head to make sure it was a 427 and not a 454. A 427 will have a 2 letter stamp i.e., MN KB something to that effect. A 454 will have 3 letters. There are websites you can cross reference the stamp to to see what the engine is and what it came out of. Also check the date stamp on the rear of the engine. Anything after 1969 is not a 427.

It could be a 427, even if the block codes say it's a 454. Pretty popular to drop a 396/402/427 rotating assembly into a 454 block to get a 427. Still not as valueable as an original 427 though.

The thing is, you're buying a motor/tranny that is used and if you can't hear it run you have no idea what you're getting?
Recently I've been reading about a lot of people getting scammed, so just be careful.
If everything was ok, $3500 doesn't seem bad for all that stuff.
