Default Cowl and trim mounting

I did some searching of the web and this forum.
I am finally getting back to working on my 69 convert, long project. The body work has been finished, the dash panel was replaced due to rust. I am wanting to mount the vent cowl and the lower windshield chrome trim that holds the upper edge of the vent cowl.
I don't have any of the original holes that where used for the h-clips used to hold the chrome trim and the vent cowl. Is there a spacific location I need to put these, how many are needed etc. I might be making a bigger deal than needs to be, but I would like to do this once only (Hopefully Grin).

The second issue I have with the vent cowl, on the driver side when I place the cowl in the location on the chassis (3 bolts) and chrome clips (On the edge of the windshield)the cowl is sitting low compaired to the fender. Hard to describe, the side of vent cowl that is next to the fender is below the edge of the fender by about 1/4". Is it normal to raise the cowl with a shim? The fender is as low as it can be mounted and match with the door. The passenger side is better.

Thanks for any help,
Ron

Wow, that is tough to visualize so if no one responds it's not because they don't want to help, it's cause it might be tough to help.

get some pics of what your describing up and that will help everyone visualize it.

For the holes for the screws, that hold the clips. I THINK it was 6 total. I need to look at a destroyed Camaro that sits on the farm next door to me. It is beyond repair and saving but I keep trying to get it away from the owner for a lawn ornament of some kind.

The first idea I would have would be to call Year One and ask for all the clips for the lower vent cowl, when they say, sure XXXX many will do it you have your answer.

Let me do some checking.

X2 on the checking. I will look up your other post question as well. I replaced the windshield on my 69, I hung it to see how it would look and fit and can remember only the botton 2 'hangars' you are mentioning, the window help quite well with just the 2 and some adhesive. I think thats what you are asking, unless you want more of the chrome holder stuff, I will have to look and get back with you, I just recieved my shipments for that stuff and I can look at the little baggie and tell you how many there are.

I put alot of darn comma's in this post. I am not going to change it either.

Thanks for the responses.
I have 6 or 7 clips so that seems correct. Do you have an idea how far from the windshield the hole should be drilled or is it more of the position of the chrome.
I am hoping to confirm the position of the clips, and also notice that the cowl is low compared to the fender. This is without a shim under the mounting locations.
This sure shows off all the dust, all I can say is it hasn't been rushed (Grin).

Thanks
Ron

I just did my '68 convertible, which is the same. The convertible has only 8 clips and the coupe's have 10 (the 2 end ones are different). Any how, you need to slide the clips into the chrome trim andposition it across the bottom of the windshield like it will be installed. Then you space the clips equally distanced and use something to mark the cowl (like a awl or punch) to drill the holes for the screws. Once you have the molding attached, you can install the rest of the trim. The cowl panel then slides under the trim and into the clip. And yes, you use shimsunder the 2 outer screws to match the fender height Don't over tighten the cowl panel screws, because they strip out easily. Good Luck and be careful not to put to much pressure on the windshield, 'cause they crack easily...regards, George

Thanks, that makes sense.
Such a small issue, but I would like it to be right.
