Choosing between 396 or 454
I have a 1967 camaro roller and am looking for opinion for which drive train I should install. I am trying to decide between two options..Car will be used as a weekend cruiser!!
First option: is a 396 eng with a powerglide, no accessories except headers engine is running but ounds like its probably original
Second option: individual is swapping his 454 eng with LS and is keeping the 400 trans with a 2500 stall converter and replacing transmission with a built 6I80.
Also thinking about going with 4spd manual.
Your thoughts and feedback will be appreciated

396/4 speed is a nice set up.
Keep in mind the 454 is externally balanced and uses a different flywheel.
454s are not all equal by a long sight, low compression smog motors don't have a lot of horsepower but do have good torque.
Early high performance 454's are brutes,my favorite big block is the 427,revs like a 396 torques like a 454.
If you have a 396/powerglide that's an odd combo,probably the 325 hp 396.
454/T-400 is about a bullet proof combo, that's what I have in my '78 GMC 3/4 ton square body 4X4 with a 6" life and 36" Super Swampers.
Been pounding that truck for 20 years and it's a die hard.
The 454 with a 4 speed would be pretty sweet, gas mileage well any big block is going to drink like a fish. lol
