What are the real pro's and con's of having a 396 compared to another big block engine, I have this engine in a 1980 Z28 I am just curious if there is a better engine and why would i part with 396.

Nothing wrong with the 396 except that for the same weight, I would like something bigger, like a 454 or 502.

same here.a 454 or 502 would be better for more power, but if you have the 396 it will do just fine. And please do post some picks of that if you can.

396's are great engines. Compared to a 454 or 502 they can come pretty close in horsepower and torque but of course as the saying goes "There is no replacement for displacement". I'm not sure why but i've always perfered it over 454s and 502s.
