Default Brake light switch

My 67 has the spring activated brake switch mounted above steering column so that brake petal arm activates and de activates lights.
The switches seem to wear out extremely fast (1-2) years. Is they’re a better system(Switch) out there to replace and make the brake lights more reliable. Thanks

Those switches are adjustable. You want them set to activate with just slight movement of brake pedal but not so tight they bottom out against the pedal resting on the switch. IDK if mine is original but I have never had a problem with it. Confirm the wiring to it is not intermittent.

I agree, set the switch to operate the brake lights in the middle of its range.

You want the switch to activate with just the slightest movement of brake pedal, but you don't want it adjusted so it is bottomed out basically making it a pedal stop. Each switch is slightly different as to how deep the plunger goes to break the circuit. My plunger sticks out about 1/8" before pedal is depressed.

If switch was set where plunger of switch was 1/2 way out....the brake lights would be on all the time.
