Default Another question on timing

69 Camaro with a 350.

With the distributor out and when I bring the number one piston to the top on the compression stroke the mark on the harmonic balance is straight up at 360. Is that where I want to start or do I want to bring the mark to 4 degrees BTDC then drop the distributor in and fine tune it from there?

When you start to feel pressure, the piston is approaching TDC, it's not all the way there yet. You then want to line the marks up at 0, or 4 BTDC if you want, drop distributor in, then fine tune from there.

And when it's at zero degrees the contact on the rotor should be pointing in the direction of the #1 cylinder??
