69 Odometer Repair
#2
One of the tiny gears inside the odometer drum might be stripped out. Your best bet would be to pick up a good used speedo: 69 Speedo on ebay
Then you could use it as is, or swap the odometer into your existing speedo. It's held in place with a clip and slides right out. While it's out, you can carefully remove the brittle plastic keeper tab retainer piece, and twirl the numbers to set it to the correct mileage, if you wanted to (yeah it's that easy to change the mileage). Come to think of it, your problem might only be with that plastic retainer being broken. If you take your speedo out and look how the odometer keeper tabs are held to the rail of the speedo body, and notice the one gap, you'll understand what I'm referring to. If fixing it is beyond you, I'd be happy to do it for you.

odometer problem
69Camaro thanks for the odometer description. My left two numbers are half rolled up. I've taken the speedometer out and the fragile plastic (mylar?) retainer is broken. Does anyone know where to get one? I have a 69 Camaro with 120 MPH speedometer. I'd rather replace the plastic retainer than buy a speedometer.

I've only broken one retainer before, that made me extra careful in the future. I don't know who carries those, technically you're not supposed to be messing with the odometer anyway. Shhhhhhh!!
Mine was in tact, just cracked. What I did was stuck a piece of heavy duty clear carton wrapping tape on both sides, then cut out the notches with an x-acto knife. Worked like a charm.

I wouldn't be surprised if GM purposely designed that piece to break. I've seen cars where the idiot owner tried to "fix" the odometer reading by prying on the numbers from the front.
As you saw how the odometer mounts, a couple of the digits are hanging in limbo and the only thing keeping them lined up is that plastic piece.
The others are held in place by their tabs to the rail on the housing.
