Default 68 Camaro small block throws belts

Hey, my 68 Camaro small block throws belts at about 5000 RPM under hard acceleration.

The 350 is a year one crate motor. 3 groove pully on the crank. Inside runs power steering. middle is alternator and power steering, outside is water pump and air.

Any ideas? I've heard deep groove pulleys are available that solve this. Any sources?

Thanks!

I didnt even know year one had motors.....dont know if I would get one from them. Have you called them to see if they had a belt drive system?

Are you throwing all the belts, or just the alternator one? I know the alternator belt likes to bounce quite a bit. A larger diameter alternator pulley stopped mine from throwing off, but that does slow down the alternator. I finally switched over to a serpentine setup (need to update my picture).
Also, have you checked with a long straight edge to make sure something isn't at an angle?

They all come off but I think its because one comes off and takes the others with it. It could very well be the alternator. The brackets may have some flex to them too.

I'm OK with getting a serpentine system, but I don't really want a bling bling one.

GM performance parts has them but I cannot sort out what to buy. They are not very specific and I can't tell if there is a kit that just has the pulleys and brackets for my list of accessories. Any help with part numbers for Air, Power Steering, Alternator, & water pump are appreciated.

Anybody know of any junkyard swaps?

As far as the year one crate motor, it came with the car. It runs great has 400 Hp and when I looked it up at year one it only costs $2989.00

If you want to stay with the v-belt setup, then a larger diameter alternator pulley should do the trick for you. Part of the problem with the smaller diameter is the fact that the belt has to make a much sharper "bend." Plus your 68 has a lot longer stretch than the 69 does, which contributes to belt bounce. I still have my old large diameter pulley (the one in my sig pic). If you want it, I'll give you a deal. Also keep in mind, that once you throw a belt, it could have a slight twist in it that you may not notice, and that will make it more prone to throw again.
