Default Looking for cold air intake for ss

I want to purchase a cold air intake for my 2010 SS with the LS3 engine. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on which intake is the best. I don't mind spending the extra dollars as long as the quality is worth the money. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Shaffey

Looks like Injen is the highest average HP/TQ gain, from the tests I posted previously.

I got the airraid from carid.com for about 330.00 and it is a quick and easy install. Works good on my 2011SS

I have done a lot of research. There are two types of cold air intakes, a dry paper filter or a pre-oiled filter. Generally speaking, the oiled filters get the best gains, but this isnt always the case. Apparently, K&N boosts a 18hp gain with their CAI, and AirRaid, Haltech, and Rotofab are all around 16 or 17hp. Keep in mind, these are gains with a tune. Just a CAI at best with no tune will get you maybe, MAYBE 10HP at sea level.
I have been trying to decide myself which is the best, and I STILL am undecided which one i'm going to get for my 2ss. You can expect to drop at least $220 for the most basic CAI for the 2010SS. If I to choose one without worrying about money, I would probably choose Rotofab. Seems like a nice size, pre oiled filter that doesnt require relocation of the windshield washer resevoir.

I have a K&N and you dont have to move the wiper juice with that either.

Our best experience has been with Airaid (~16-17hp with a tune). As far as performance they seem to stack up right at the same mark as Halltech, and Rotofab but seem to be cheaper overall without a sacrifice in quality.

Just my two cents... as this debate is about as old as cars themselves. Harping on what ShadowCat said, basically most CAI's on the market today from a REPUTABLE company will net you close to the same gains +/- 2 HP in either direction with the proper tune. It really comes down to what company you like better, and where you want to put your money.

Good luck on your search!

I just ordered a K&N 63-3074 for my 2SS. The first step in installation is to disconnect the negative battery terminal. Is this really necessary? What happens if you don't? If you do, what effect will that have on the entertainment electronics?

Thanks to all who read this and respond.

It's not necessary to disconnect the negative terminal. It's just a lame safety precaution.

Chaotic94:
Thank you for your response. You confirm what I suspected. I guess because the installation procedure requires the MAF to be unplugged and then reconnected, that K&N felt the need to cover their 6 (also known as CYA) by directing the installer to disconnect the battery so that nothing could go wrong...at least not electrically.
