Default NewB! Looking into buying a 2ss

Hey guy's, I'm new to the site but not to Chevys. I have 2 el caminos a 68 on the back burner and my daily driver 78. I dump ALLOT of money into the 78 it's come a looong way from when I bought it less then a year ago.

So I live in SoCal in the S.G.V and I'm a young workaholic looking to buy a new SS. I test drove one today, it was an automatic though The old salesman guy was all scared telling me not to hurt the car so I couldent get a real feel for it.

I want a inferno orange RS/SS with black strips, ground effex package, inferno red interior trim package, moon roof, and the hurst shifter... Comes out to just over 41k

My question to you guys and gals is...

#1 Is there any thing that I dont need to get like the ground effex package and hurst shifter? Are there any better and cheaper effex kits out there?

#2 what's your true MPG like? I drive 78 miles round trip to work. I'm use to doing that at 10 MPG in my el camino.

#3 Any one want to talk me out of it? or is this the car to have?... Because I sure do love it..

Thanks for any replies

I am happy with mine so far. it gets about 18-22 mpg daily driving (automatic, tuned and DOD disabled) Just make sure to shop around on insurance (you said you were young) before you buy anything because i am 21 and i only have 1 ticket on my record and that happened when i was 17 and my insurance is about 400$ a month.

I just bought a new 2010 2SS/RS LS3 and I absotively posolutely love this car!!! I can't advise you on what add-ons to buy or not buy and where to buy them except that dealerships usually charge more than what you can buy elsewhere. The only add-on/modification I've made so far is to put a K&N Cold Air Intake on it. I can't say if it's increased horse power or MPG yet and I may never be able to do that because I've been taking it easy during break in.

As to MPG, that's the only thing about my car I don't like. Depending upon how I drive it I can get anywhere from 12 MPG to 26 MPG. Having just emerged from the 1500 mile breakin period today, I can't tell you what the MPG is if you really get on it. Under somewhat spirited driving while keeping the RPM below 4K as the manual suggests, I get the 12 MPG. At 70 MPH with the cruise control on, I get the 26 MPG.

From what you write, if you're getting only 10 MPG on the El Camino, you'll have no problem with the mileage you get on the Camaro.

Go for it!

Are you thinking LS3 or L99?
