RE: VOLTAGE REGULATOR
Its probably too late, but have you thought of putting in an alternator w/an internal regulator?
If it is possible to return the one you just got, you could get asingle wire alt from jegs or summit at a very reasonable price, and omit the voltage regulator alltogether. Just a thought.

RE: VOLTAGE REGULATOR
Ditto on that. What you want is a Delco 10-SI alternator. They were used extensively in the 70's, the regulator is internal. You can Ebay a chrome version for about $70. Over the counter at auto parts stores a natural finish for about $45. If you have A/C or accessories requiring more output ask for a CS-130 one-wire. This is a newer GM alt with more output.
