99' Camaro on 73' Chevelle
and thats the numbers that gm will admit to,we all know those big block cars threw out a little more torque then they said.after 74 is when they really started to choke these cars. A good clue is to look for bald rear tires, never trust a guy with bald rear tires.
if he says he has 115hp and 205 ft tq then he must have a 250cu in 6 cylinder or he's yanking your chain. if he has a I6 he's gonna jump off the line , then fall on his face.the I6 makes good power WAY down in the rpm band , but then nothing else, they kinda go flat. if he jumps you for the first 20 ft or so don't fret, you will come back around.
Did some searching and there was no 396 in 73' and after 72' the engine ratings declined because of emission standards. The V8engines available were:
L65 350 V8 145bhp@4000rpm, 255lb-ft@2400rpm
L48 350 V8 175bhp@4000rpm, 270lb-ft@2400rpm
454 V8 245bhp@400rpm, 375lb-ft@3200rpm
L65 350 V8 145bhp@4000rpm, 255lb-ft@2400rpm
L48 350 V8 175bhp@4000rpm, 270lb-ft@2400rpm
454 V8 245bhp@400rpm, 375lb-ft@3200rpm
if the car has a 350 4 bbl or better, he's gonna stomp a 6 cylinder car, hands down the A body chassis was a killer chassis. as long as the engine/trans/drivetrain are in decent shape, yes the 250 was a turd, but it made ALL it's power way down in the rpm band and they will jump off the line, i had a 69 Maro base model with a 250 and 3 spd manual , car was deadly from redlight to redlight , but then it ran out of stem.
