Yeah, on paper it looks like the 4.6GT should beat a 3.8 pretty easily, but it's not that way. I've been beat by a couple before, but not bad, usually I'm around their rear tire, and the ones I have beat it's been the same just the other way around, so they are probably about equal with equal drivers. But I did earn some Camaro respect from my buddy. By what he said when I first met him I guess he thought he was making like 300hp, I knew different but didn't say anything. I didn't tell him if I had any mods or not before we ran, and the next weekend after we ran he asked what mods I had because he thought my car was quick. When I told him it was a little old stock V6 he didn't believe me, after I convinced him otherwise I could see the dissapointment in his face that he just barely edged out a V6 with his V8. I still want to run him from a dig where I am stronger(and he says he is stronger), but I think he is a little concerned he is going to lose. If and when it happens I will record it and post it.

 

this is kinda common with alot of guys. I spend alot of time on mustangforums.com, and ud be surprised how many guys come on with a 94-98 GT (5.0 94-95, 4.6 96-98) with a couple minor boltons and some gears and they say "yeah, i bet im somewhere in the 300-320 hp range" [&:]. the 5.0 is a little better to mod, but it still takes quite a bit. Ive disappointed a good many nPI drivers. If they havent researched much, they seem to think that their cars are just like the 99-04 4.6 but it just isnt the case. In fact, there is a long thread on there where a guy claims that he whoops up on PI cars all the time wiht just a set of 4.10 gears. the PI 4.6 has about 40 hp over the nPI. I dont disagree with ur original story, ive heard of that happening alot with the 96-98 cars.and even on paper it doesnt look like the nPI 4.6 has that much of an advantage. but the PI 4.6 will blow ur doors off. They start out faster, and mod much better than the nPI 2v,but even that being said, they still dont mod all that well. I did full boltons on mine and gained about 30 rwhp. I could do that with just LTs on my ls1

 

I don't really mess with 99-04 GT's anyway, I know where to pick my races, I don't just go trying to race every sports car out there like the ricers. They are a full second faster than the 3.8. And like I said, in 3 months when I graduate collegeand get into my jobthis 3.8 is gone and here comes a LS1. I'm going to do at least full bolt ons, maybe a cam, would love to do a supercharger set up but that might be pushing it.
