Default 99 3.8 vs. 98 Mustang GT 4.6

A co-worker of mine has the GT, we got off workat the same time so I followed him out to the highway. We never could catch a light side by sideon the way there to run from a dig, but he was behind me once at a lightand we both went WOT, his car is pretty loudso I could hear he was on it, I was pullingaway. So we got to the highwayand did alittle run from from about 45. From 45-85ish it was dead even, then he started very slowly pulling away, probably shut down around 95-100 with my front bumper at this front tire. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will run again, this time from a dig andI'll be sure to bring my camera and record it, cause I think from a dig I'll take him, well at least till a certain point then I think he will creep up on me.

i was just going to say i thought v6 to v6 the camaros are faster. then i read it again, if ur serious about the race you should feel good that you kept up with a gt. just think if it was a ls1

Yeah I've raced several of this generation of GT, won a couple of times and lost a couple times, but they were usually from a very slow roll only to around 40-50. Like I said, I really think from a dig I'll take him, but his top end is better than mine. I meant to get my camera at lunch in case we ran them today but I forgot, so I hope next weekend we can do it again and I'll be sure to have my camera.

And my car is stock with 98,000 miles
His car is stock except for flowmasters(not like that is much help) with 130,000 miles

the 98 was probably the slowest GT ever made.... they were pretty bad [:'(]. However, if it was a 99 GT you would have been spanked pretty hard.

I wouldn't exactly call them bad, considering everyone of them I have raced(5.0 or 4.6) I keep up with or beat, I've run quite a few, they are pretty popular around here. I know the 99+ GT's are faster(still not that quick), but I don't go after them. 3 more months till I get my LS1 and get to spank them anyway.

i know some of the gt's came with some pretty crapy gearing, a buddy of mine had a later 90's one dont rember the year, and the thing came with 2.73's and anyone thats driven any 2.73 car knows they are dawgs doesnt matter what engine you have, where as gm v6's almost always came with 3.23 or 3.42's that right there could win you the race

225 hp, thats pretty bad for a v8 in those years.and the fact that a 3.8 v6 keeps up means its bad [&:] Im not sure what ur arguing here.

Ya my co-worker has a 2000 Mustang GT. I give him stuff about it all the time, but the car has some *****. I have to admit that. He has a bit of work put into it. Its able to keep up with the Cobras.

I used to have a 2000 vert. The car (as it was) would have whooped my ls1, but the 99 and 98 are completely different animals. the nPI 4.6 was a dog. I wasnt lying when i said it might have been the slowest GT made. 1/4 in the 15s. but then again, the sn95 seems to be the preferred platform for alot of dragsters. Im pretty sure that those cars and the 99-04 cars have the same overall dimentions (they have the same chassis) so Im not sure why I see sn95 stangs so often on the strip
