i beleave it's around 7-9 PSI on stock internals. and for that much boost, prolly better getting a procharger, you can bolt it on yourself, then just get it tuned.

It depends a little bit on what kind of set up you want to run. Boost vs. compressor size also matters on how much boost you can run safe. The basic principles are the same for any gas engine the only thing that changes is how you chose to run and tune the set up. STS makes good affordable systems for the Fbody. The amount of boost you can run willalso depend on if you’re running an Intercooler, fuel mods, and how much tuning you want to but into the set up. I strongly recommend having the LT1 dyno tuned for even low boost. It will make the engine run more efficient and can save you lots of pain latter on.

You can notice as little as one pound of boost on a mild size turbo. It might not throw in back into the seat but it would add some performance. Running 7 pounds would be as far as I would push it if you don’t plan on running an intercooler. I would strongly suggest dyno tuning for any thing over 5 pounds. It would be a good idea to upgrade your fuel pump just to be on the safe side of things as well.

Turbo’s make power based on a few things the first being boost pressure. Obi sly the more boosts you run the more air your pushing into the engine. The second factor is the size of the turbo it’s self. A large turbo may move more air at a lower boost level vs. a smaller one but could take longer so spool and build pressure. The remaining factor is intake tempter. Turbo’s produce a lot of heat and as a result they cause large increases in intake charge tempters. Tempter increase more as you increase boost. If the temps get to hot it can lead to knocking and even detonation and heavy engine damage this is ware intercoolers come into play. However A large intercooler may increase cooling but can also increase lag as well plus they are not cheap as you well know.

Most v8s run a good size turbo vs. are 4 cylinder friends. Just because a turbo isntrunning 18 pounds of boost doesn’t mean they are not making good power. STS claims a 120 horse power at the wheels increase on there none intercooler system at only 7 pounds of boost on the LT1 kit using a T04E 60-1 Garrett turbo and claim a 1.3 second increase in the 1/4. There LS1 kits claims 100 HP at only 5 pounds also none intercooler
