SBC 98 comaro, in Australia
#21
Hi guys, I havent logged on for a while as I am close to finishing a long term project of mine and have been hard at it!!! I have still be tinkering with my comaro, on the side though. I need a new battery for my camera so i cant take anymore pics at the moment, but I have now put on a alloy timing cover set and new electric water pump. I think that they came up killer !!!!!!
As usual though I did find something that was horrid. My car has a gear drive and when the "cowboys" assembled my engine they placed the lower part the idler pully pins, in back to front and they nearly WALKED thru my old timing cover. As gear drives have a tendancy to walk especially helicual, but mine are straight cut, but it still needs the correct nylon spacer placed in the cam, correctly cut so it gently tuches the timing cover. OTHERWISE YOUR CAM WILL WALK ALL THE WAY THROUGH YOUR TIMING COVER. My engine was just freshened and the cam was already six mm out of the bearing, Only six mm to go and I would have had disaster!
I thought that I would do the right thing and get it done professionally, NEXT TIME I WILL DO IT MYSELFF!!!!
I now have my car on stands in the shed, with the wheels off. I'm thinking of a BMR whole tube front end, Is there anybody using these set ups???
Most of all Im curious about the k frame "The engine support" I need to know more about it and maybe a few measurements, as I will be fitting my SBC back, so clearences could be better or worse??
Im looking at the deluxe brake, coilovers, and tube arms etc.
By the way who has a 98 mini tubbed, can fill me in, I have seen all the bmr relocation brackets etc. Can anyone fill me in more???
Thanks guys cheers ben.
