Default 99 comaro oil pressure drops...

i have a 99 camaro v6 standard and its been parked for 2 months

yesterday i got in it and drove around, it started getting a little hot

and the oil pressure dropped and it was making a funny noise.

So i replaced the thermostat and it stopped over heating.

Today i got in it and drove around, it didn't over heat but again after driving

around in it for a few hours i noticed the engline oil pressure dropped from 60

to around 30... and when i put the car in gear and let off the clutch it

makes a clicking noise, not a loud knock, but just a click, anybody have

any idea what this might be??!

i had a local chevy dealer do mine and they used 5w30. not sure why, it calls for 10w30 in the dealer shop manual. i think they are getting the 5w30 cheaper, with the less weight oil the lifters were ticking and the oil pressure was just below twenty pounds at a ilde. anyways i have it done at a local minute lube now and tell them to use 10 30 every time. no noise with the 10w30 and oil pressure went up about 5 lbs.

I use either 10w30 or 5w30 depending on the season. As the car heats up the oil pressure drops because the oil gets less viscous. 30psi isn't "low" oil pressure if you're idling, remember oil pressure also varies with engine RPM.

the cars usual oil pressure is around 60 consistently, then it just drops to 30 out of no where...

thanks again

ok, so i got to talkin to a mechanic and he said it might be the IAC solenoid, or the idle air control valve. Does this sound familiar on this year model?! he said it could cause low rpm's at idle and in turn cause low oil pressure, and if you take your foot off the pedal while idling the car can die. This is exactly what is happening to me, so if anyone has a
refrence as to where or how i can change that solenoid i would greatly appreciate it, i
would much rather do the work myself if anybody knows a good online guide

thanks
Jeff

whens the last time the car has had new spark plugs and oil change? how old are the wires? iac motor or valve should be on the thottle body. not very hard to change on the lt1, not sure on the 6.

on 95-98 3.8 it's easy. i was thinking that since the '99+ 6s are electronic throttle bodies, that the throttle did it all. i often wonder how people find camaroforums and still spell camaro wrong. ha
